Now Weekly Issue 001: AAPI News Headlines

Every week, the Asian American & Pacific Islander community is up to bigger and better things. At KITS, we love discovering new digital marketing tactics. One of our main goals, though, is to promote and empower the AAPI community as much as possible. What better way than catching the latest AAPI news?

That’s how Now Weekly was born. The KITS version of an online newspaper, Now Weekly provides you with positive news headlines regarding the AAPI community. It is any easy way to discover powerful and exciting AAPI news you may have missed.

Joe Biden Signs Executive Order Condemning Anti-Asian Racism Related To COVID-19

Biden signed an executive order that “recommends that federal health authorities should make sure their COVID-19 response “demonstrates cultural competency, language access, and sensitivity towards AAPIs.” It also directs the Department of Justice to make more concerted efforts to address hate crimes and harassment against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, in partnership with AAPI community leaders.

UMass student undertakes project to provide translated voting resources in various Asian languages.

UMass student Lily Tang developed a translation project with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ Asian American Commission (ACC.) Tang worked with Jessica Wong (umass alumni) and Brooke Kamalani Yuen (comm engagement coordinator for ACC) to improve voting access for Asian Americans, particularly small AAPI ethnic groups. Together, they provided voting resources in 7 different Asian languages!
 

"Now that we're coming out of the 2020 election, we're seeing the impact of Asian American voters,” Tang said. “However, as a government and as candidates, there’s not a lot of effort to outreach to the AA community when we know that there is a very specific need that the AA community faces that the majority of other communities don’t.”

A Pho Love Story featured in “For January, 3 Romances That Prove Love Is Ageless” on NPR

A Pho Love Story, written by Loan Le, is a highly-anticipated romance novel about two Vietnamese-American teens falling in love.
The book releases its hardcover version on Tuesday February 9th 2021!
